Give Yourself a Home Facial

A great facial is the ultimate combination of skincare and self-care rolled into one luxuriously soothing and rejuvenating package. Not only does it perk up your complexion, leaving skin feeling smooth, healthy, glowing and free of congestion, but all that pampering works double duty to soothe your frazzled nerves at the end of a long week.

Of course, a professional facial is the ultimate indulgence, but you can also learn how to give yourself the best facial at home — no booking or travelling required. And chances are most of what you need is already available in your bathroom cabinet.

Throw on a headband and pull your hair away from your face ... scented candles and soothing ocean sounds optional.

Step One – Remove Makeup
Start by cleaning your face with a cotton pad soaked in micellar water or a make-up remover. Try our Clear & Soothe Micellar Jelly Make-Up Remover.

Step Two – Cleanse
Use your fingertips to massage a cleanser into your skin for 60 seconds. Rinse to get rid of dirt and excess oil and create a fresh canvas for the rest of your facial.

Step Three – Steam
Submerge a washcloth in warm water and drape it over your face for 10 minutes to steam your pores so they can more effectively soak in active ingredients.

Step Four – Exfoliate
Use either a chemical or physical exfoliator, such as our Refreshingly Clear Daily Exfoliator, to deeply cleanse and buff away dead skin cells. Exfoliation also allows other products to penetrate better into your pores.

Step Five – Mask
Smooth a thin layer of a clay mask over your face, avoiding eyes and lips. This will help absorb pore-clogging oil that can cause breakouts, whilst tightening the appearance of pores.

Step Six – Tone
Wet a cotton pad with toner and apply a thin layer across your face to help balance your skin’s pH level. Tailor it to your skin type: A salicylic acid formula will take care of oily skin, while an alcohol-free one is best for dry skin.

Step Seven – Moisturise
Massage a hydrating moisturiser into your skin to help tone facial muscles, boost lymphatic drainage, increase blood circulation and seal in all that other goodness. Stick with long, gentle, circular motions.

Finally, relax and drink plenty of water to hydrate from the inside.
