Our commitment to a better environment
Our commitment to a better environment
We take our responsibility to protect the environment seriously. That’s why we’ve made a global commitment to remove plastic microbeads from all our cosmetic and personal care products by the end of 2017.
What are plastic microbeads?
Plastic microbeads are tiny plastic balls sometimes used in personal care products, such as face and body scrubs, to gently exfoliate dead skin. However, some have raised concerns that when microbeads are rinsed into water treatment systems they can pose a threat to ecosystems.
Our commitment
Since 2013 we have been working to remove polyethylene microbeads from every single product, and we’re on track to meet our commitment to be plastic microbead-free by the end of 2017.
Buying plastic microbead-free NEUTROGENA® products
We rigorously assess every new ingredient to ensure it’s safe and kind to skin as well as the environment. It’s not a process we want to rush, because consumer safety is our number one priority.
Following research and development we will now be replacing plastic microbeads with jojoba and cellulose beads, which are derived from plants and will naturally biodegrade after use. Many of the NEUTROGENA® products in the UK have already been reformulated and the rest will be by end of 2017 latest.
Good news - all the below products are available without plastic microbeads
As retailers stock their shelves at different times, please be aware that some stores may still be selling original rather than reformulated products. If you’re unsure whether the NEUTROGENA® product you’re buying has been reformulated, take a look at the ingredients list. If it doesn’t include polyethylene, then it doesn’t contain plastic microbeads.
